Objects and Reasons.

The amendments bring the law of the Colony

into line with the law of the Straits Settlements, by extending the possible duration of a sentence of banishment and increasing the penalty for returning from banishment in certain cases. They also dis- -pense with the necessity of banishing Straits deportees who pass

through this Colony.
